Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 cup cranberry juice (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger, peeled
  • 2 oranges, sliced into rounds
  • Optional alcohol: rum, brandy, or bourbon

Instructions

  1. Slice the oranges into rounds and peel a small piece of fresh ginger.
  2. Pour the apple cider, orange juice, and cranberry juice into the slow cooker. Stir to combine.
  3. Drop in the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, and ginger. Adjust spice quantities to taste.
  4. Stir in the brown sugar. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  5. Set the slow cooker to low and let the wassail simmer for 3–4 hours.
  6. Use a ladle to pour the wassail into mugs. Garnish with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick.
