Description
These easy New Year’s Eve cookies are not only delicious but also a joy to make, perfect for celebrating the New Year with family and friends. They are versatile and can be customized to suit any festive occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips (or any mix-ins you prefer)
- ½ cup sprinkles
- Optional: ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing!
- Fold in the chocolate chips (and optional peppermint extract if using) with a spatula until evenly distributed.
- Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Sprinkle the tops of the cookies with festive sprinkles for that celebratory touch!
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked, but they’ll firm up as they cool.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can enhance flavor and texture. Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter.
