Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (85/15 fat ratio)
- 2 cups (200g) elbow macaroni
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz/425g) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz/411g) diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/2 cup (120ml) beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup (100g) shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional: red pepper flakes, fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Bring a medium pot of salted water to a boil. Add 2 cups (200g) of elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 finely chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for 1 more minute until fragrant.
- Add 1 pound (450g) of ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Stir in 1 can (15 oz/425g) of tomato sauce, 1 can (14.5 oz/411g) of diced tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 1/2 cup (120ml) of beef broth, 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 5 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Add the cooked and drained pasta to the skillet. Stir well to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
- Sprinkle 1 cup (100g) of shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- Remove from heat, give it a final stir, and serve warm. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
Notes
[‘Use ground beef with an 85/15 fat ratio for the best flavor.’, ‘Slightly undercook the pasta to prevent it from becoming mushy.’, ‘Customize the heat with red pepper flakes or hot sauce.’, ‘For a creamier texture, stir in a splash of heavy cream or sour cream.’]
